Magazine Cover Ideas

Image
My magazine market analysis helped me to decide on what would look best on the cover of my magazine. Over 90% of the people who participated in the survey chose that both a male and female model would look best on the cover. As I figure out how to work with this, I must also make sure that the picture is not too distracting and that the colors fit in well with the text and image. In the survey, the majority of the responses on the color scheme question said bold colors. My cover will most likely include pink, blue, and maybe red. When doing this, I have to be careful not to have colors clash together.  I also researched some examples of magazine covers that include both a male and female model to give me an idea of what mine could look like.

Magazine Market Research Analysis

After seeing the results of my market research survey, I will be analyzing what the responses were in order to help me create my magazine according to my target audience. Only one person out of all the participants in the survey has never read a magazine. The majority of the people have read a fashion magazine before. The favorite genre of magazine out of the responses is fashion. The thing that most appeals to people in a fashion magazine is trends, clothing, and the uniqueness of it. Most people would like to see both a male and female model on the cover of the magazine. According to the responses, latest trends, interviews, and beauty tips are the most interesting in a magazine. For the color scheme, people agreed that it should be bold and colorful to attract the attention of the audience (pinks, blues, reds).

The following are the results to a survey I conducted on my classmates to gain a better understanding of my audience.

Magazine Market Research Questions

For my magazine market research survey, I have come up with the following questions for my classmates to respond to in order to help me gain a better understanding of the audience. Do you read magazines? What is your favorite genre of magazines? Have you ever read a fashion magazine? If you have, what appealed to you the most about them? If you have not, what would appeal to you the most? What should be on the cover of a fashion magazine? What would you like to be included inside a fashion magazine? What should the color scheme of a fashion magazine be like?

Magazine Market Research

In order to gain a better understanding of my target audience when creating my own magazine, I will be conducting a survey on my classmates. Based on these responses, I will be able to see what they look for the most in a magazine. In addition, I will be able to know what colors would look better in a scheme and what attracts them to a magazine overall. This survey will allow me to create  a magazine that appeals to my intended audience. I will be posting the questions and results in the next posts.

Magazine Inspiration and Ideas

Image
For my magazine, I have been looking at different fashion magazines as ideas and inspiration. I focused on Teen Vogue magazine because I liked how they include both female and male models on the cover. Usually on the cover of fashion magazines, there are only female models or only male models so I thought that was interesting. Also, my magazine is targeted towards teenagers and therefore it was good for me to look at Teen Vogue to get an idea of what those types of magazines include.  Cover Contents Page  Double-Page Spread

Magazine Marketing

Magazines have to market their products in order to get necessary sales. I have researched a number of ways in which magazine companies do their marketing and here is what I have found. Social Media : Using social media pages, such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to promote the magazine. Running ads on those media sites would get the attention of the targeted audience. List Segmentation : Creating an email list for each one of the areas of interest within the magazine. This would target readers that have a specific taste. Having a Good Offer : Making sure the digital price is good enough.  Affiliate Marketing : Rewarding existing subscribers with free issues or subscriptions for every reader they bring in. Offering Different Types of Subscription Options : Giving the readers more options on what they can susbcribe to. Include a Subscription Offer In Emails : Every email sent should have a digital subscription offer that clearly tells the reader the benefits t

Conventions of Magazine Double-Page Spread

In a magazine, the double-page spread is two pages that are next to each other and working together to create one piece. These show the same content but on two pages and appear to be one. Double-page spreads have their own set of conventions. Headline: Large text that displays the title of the article. Large Image: Used to entice the reader and can be seen clearly on one page or connected on both pages. Quote: If the article is from an interview, there will be a direct quote that grabs the readers attention presented by the image or as the headline. Layout: Links two pages together and follows a consistent color scheme. Mode of Address: The way the audience is addressed in the article. Buzz Words: Words that grab the readers attention, such as "FREE" or "NEW." References: G ibney, L. (2011, October 30). Codes and conventions of a double page spread. Conventions of Magazine Contents Page

In a magazine, the contents page, or table of contents, is what tells the reader what and where information can be found in that particular magazine. Just like the cover page, the contents page has its own set of conventions. Title: The biggest text on the page that displays "Contents" as the title. Main Image: A single picture on the page that relates to the feature article or multiple small pictures. Sub-Headings: Categories that divide the content of what types of articles will be in the magazine (i.e. "Features" or "On the Cover"). Color Scheme: Simple without too many colors so that it is not distracting of the contents. Columns: Information on the contents page is organized in columns that include the title and page numbers. Fonts: These are used to make it easier to differentiate between headings and sub-headings. Subscription and Editor Details: Contact information and may include a letter from the editor. Conventions of Magazine Covers

For this part of my research, I decided to focus on the codes and conventions (aspects) of magazines. Here are a few of the most important ones that I discovered in my research. Masthead: The title of the magazine, usually catches the attention of the reader. Tagline: Presents what the magazine will be focusing on. Coverline: Describes what information will be inside the magazine. Central Image: The image used on the cover that should grab the reader's attention. Cover Model: The person on the cover of the magazine, normally a celebrity or model.  Color Scheme: The different colors used on the magazine cover. Barcode: Does not obstruct the view if the reader by usually being on a corner. Header: Usually a line on top of the cover that gives the reader more information of what will be inside the magazine. Edition: Lets the reader know when the magazine was published and does not obstruct with the view. References: JordanLiddell Fol
