Conventions of Magazine Covers

For this part of my research, I decided to focus on the codes and conventions (aspects) of magazines. Here are a few of the most important ones that I discovered in my research.

Masthead: The title of the magazine, usually catches the attention of the reader.

Tagline: Presents what the magazine will be focusing on.

Coverline: Describes what information will be inside the magazine.

Central Image: The image used on the cover that should grab the reader's attention.

Cover Model: The person on the cover of the magazine, normally a celebrity or model.

Color Scheme: The different colors used on the magazine cover.

Barcode: Does not obstruct the view if the reader by usually being on a corner.

Header: Usually a line on top of the cover that gives the reader more information of what will be inside the magazine.

Edition: Lets the reader know when the magazine was published and does not obstruct with the view.
